How to resize an image
- 1. Drop in a JPG, PNG, or WebP image.
- 2. Type the exact width or height you need, or use a percentage button to scale down.
- 3. Keep "Lock to original" on to preserve proportions and avoid stretching.
- 4. Pick a format and download.
Resizing is the fastest way to cut file size — a photo shown at 800px wide doesn't need to be 4000px. For getting under a specific file-size limit, use the compressor, and see reducing image file size for the full method.
Frequently asked questions
Will resizing reduce quality?
Shrinking an image is essentially lossless to the eye. Enlarging beyond the original dimensions will look softer, since there's no extra detail to invent.
Does it keep the aspect ratio?
By default yes — changing width updates height automatically. Turn off the lock to stretch to exact dimensions.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Resizing happens in your browser with the Canvas API; your image never leaves your device.
How this tool helps
Images that are too large for a profile, listing, form, or website need predictable dimensions. Use exact pixels for platform requirements, or percentage resizing when you want a quick proportional change.
How to use it
- Add an image and choose exact width/height or a percentage.
- Keep the aspect-ratio lock on unless distortion is intentional.
- Preview and download the resized copy.
Example
Resize a 4000px photo to 1200px wide for a faster-loading article image.
What you get
The download uses the selected output format and reports the final pixel dimensions.
Good to know
Limitations: Upscaling cannot restore detail that was not present in the original. Unlocking the ratio can stretch faces and logos.
Privacy: Resizing runs locally in your browser; no source image is uploaded.
